I’m a published writer of several textbooks, but my dayjob right now is doing marketing for a health insurance company. I have lived the dream of being a book editor in New York, and I loved it, but the pay sucked, and I wanted to have a kid, so here I am in Plano, Texas. A blue blue gal in a red red county in a red red state where evolution is still a fightin’ word. Oh well.
My son is nearly five and he’s the star of my Flickr page and the light of my life. His birth was a real trip through the meatgrinder, though, and radicalized me to become a fervent supporter of homebirth, midwifery, and a thorough dismantling of the birth-industrial complex. And a possible impetus to become a midwife myself, though this idea is still being mulled.
My husband and I have been together lo these many years; he’s a musician pursuing the laughably Quixotic task of trying to make good music and get paid for it without bending his principles. One year w/out his dayjob, and counting.
